Connecting through horses

Therapy * communication * corporate workshops

Charity work

Have you always wanted to connect with a horse in a way that makes sense TO THE HORSE and not just from the perspective of a human?

Do you dream of building a relationship with a horse based on trust and leadership?

Are you fascinated by how nature and animals operate and wish you could understand it too?

Are you looking for a meaningful way of spending time with nature and interacting with animals in a non-violent way?

Are you looking to broaden your perspective like never before?

Do you have a horse, or do you ride horses and wish to transform your experience with them?

Are you looking for someone with professional experience to guide you on this journey?

Before you came across this website...

  • You love animals - and horses in particular - and you want to be able to connect with them in a meaningful way.

You have spent time with horses and/or plan to spend time with them but you want to be an ideal partner for them.

  • The methods that you have observed so far in terms of how people interact with horses do not seem right to you.

You believe that humans and horses can build a beautiful, trusting relationship that excludes the use of violence. Unfortunately, the approaches that you have seen so far are not aligned with your values and you are looking for an alternate solution that makes sense to you and your values.

  • You have tried multiple approaches, either led by someone or self-guided, but these have not worked out how you hoped.

In your search to learning more about horses and become a great partner for them, you have tried various equestrian centres, you have watched Youtube tutorials and Instagram videos but somehow it just hasn’t worked out and given you the results you want.

  • You want to be able to change the way people deal with animals

You are deeply aware of the suffering of horses because of the poor management and sheer ignorance of some handlers/owners. You want to be equipped to take care of horses, to rehabilitate rescued horses and maybe even to teach others how to take better care of these wonderful animals.

  • You want a career with horses in an ethical way

You’ve been thinking about making a career with horses, whether as part of a charitable organisation or on a more performance basis involving things like jumping, polo and racing. You might even want to start (break-in) young horses. But you want to be able to do so using non-violent techniques that make sense to the horse and brings the best out of him.

The problem is:

You don’t know where to start. Handling horses is not easy and anyone telling you differently is lying. It requires professional training, knowledge and experience. It can feel like a big mountain to climb and no place to start.

You don’t believe this is something accessible for you. You might not come from a horsey and/or wealthy family and you don’t believe you can afford it or that you even have a right to this dream.

You have not been able to find outside help because most trainers and equestrian centres you have approached are not qualified or trained in the methods that you would like to do. The self-teaching approach has been very difficult to implement on your own without proper guidance.

I get it, I’ve been there

I know about all these challenges, I have been there myself.

I was born in Himachal Pradesh, India, in a simple (but fantastic!) middle-class family for whom owning horses was either a matter of kings or of vegetable vendors. Actually, my mother used to tease me that I’d end up pushing donkeys on construction sites if I didn’t do my homework (look who is laughing now!)

As a matter of fact, I didn’t sit on a horse until the ripe age of 32 years old. My wife, who grew up in France, loves horses and pushed me to try. I started riding in the middle of a field near Delhi’s airport. Although I loved learning to ride, I also felt that there were a lot of things wrong being done to horses, like the way they opened their mouth when I pulled on the reins or how we have to whip them to make them go forward. But I was told it was normal so I carried on.

Soon after, however, my wife convinced me to take some time off to go and train at the famous horse whisperer Monty Roberts’ centre in California, USA. In my family, taking some “time off” was completely unheard off - and at that to do horse training! You can imagine my family’s reaction. But I was lucky because they were supportive.

My journey learning natural horsemanship took many years and many setbacks (I’ll tell you all one day with a cup of chai around a bonfire). But it also took me to extraordinary places, including working with wild mustangs in the US and Mongol ponies, among other incredible things. It was all a combination of extreme luck, very hard work and coming across very supportive people!

I set up this natural horsemanship centre in Gurgaon to provide all the people like me in India, and in Asia, a place to carry out their dreams with horses.

What you need right now

You need a place to start. The only way you will know if this is for you is if you give it a go. While building a trusting relationship with horses sounds very dreamy and poetic, there is a method to it, as well as a starting point.

You need professional guidance. Horses are complex creatures with a mind very different from ours. Learning everything by yourself is possible, but it is extremely rare and, importantly, will take much longer and involve a lot of mistakes (trust me I tried!). A professional teacher knows the method and will guide you through it.

The 6 steps to mastering the art of natural horsemanship

Step 1 - Get inside the horse’s head
If you’re going to build a relationship with a horse, the first thing is to start thinking like a horse

*
Step 2 - Learn to read a horse
Horses communicate mainly with their bodies, you need to learn how to read them to know what they are telling you

*
Step 3 - Learn to speak like a horse
Horses read your body language all the time, so you need it to make sense to them from their perspective

*
Step 4 - Synchronise with your horse
Horses from the same herd synchronise (move together without even realising it), you’ll want to know how to do that

*
Step 5 - Fine-tune your communication
Take your communication to the next level using subtle cues like light pressure from your hand. This is crucial, especially if you are a rider

*
Step 6 - Become a fearless leader
Horses, being preys, are prone to panic. Your job in the relationship is to teach them to be brave. You will also learn to become their safe space.

In this course we take all that we have learned in the previous module and take it to the next level by fine-tuning your communication, testing it with more horses to make sure you are comfortable, confident and clear in your communication. You will learn how to have real "conversations" with horses where you and the horse can both be yourselves but at the same time build a relationship so that you can grow and prosper together. You will learn how to synchronise with your horse so that you can move and function in symbiosis.

[3] Riding from the ground (long lining)

3 day course
Rs 45,000++

**This course builds onto the [2] Trust building & Communication + [3] Trust building & Communication ADVANCED and cannot be taken unless the previous levels have been cleared.**

Once you have mastered the art of your body language and reading the horse, you will learn how to ride from the ground. Long lining is the art of communicating with the horse using subtle cues with your hands as well as your body language almost as though you are dancing with your horse. Your skills in synchronising with your horse will be taken to the next level, giving you very valuable tools to be able to be a great partner when you are on the horse (though there is no riding involved in this course). You will be able to understand why a horse does things the ways it does, why sometimes it refuses and what you can do about it. On top of having an exceptional relationship with your horse, you will also be able to help him become the most performing he can be all without using force and violence. You will have a partner who wants to be with you and wants to work with you.

>> Manjeev Natural Horsemanship Long Lining Certificate will be awarded at the end of the session

5 good reasons to invest money in learning natural horsemanship:

#1 – Horses will change your world

Taken the right way, horses will bring you a richness in your life that nothing else will ever match. Even if you already interact with horses you could be missing out on so much if you are not aware of everything that is going on. Don’t miss out anymore.

#2 – Change a horse’s world

Too many horses suffer because they are not treated well, often simply because of ignorance. If you know how to read a horse and how to help them, you can change their life for the better.

#3 – “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”

With the right approach, a horse can become your best ally, a partner you can count on and who, in turn, will count on you.

#4 – There are a lot of bad ways to do something good

Often, people with the best intentions create a lot of damage. It’s just ignorance. By properly training yourself you are ensuring that this doesn’t happen, that you are equipped to do the good you want to do and that you will not, by mistake or ignorance, create more pain.

#5 – “Goals are dreams with deadlines.”
A structured program makes something which seems very difficult tangible, with a beginning, a middle and an end. Make things happen, take on a professional teacher in a structured program.

Bonus question: What would the ability to build really special relationships with horses bring to your life?

This course is for you if:

  • You are open to new ideas and concepts

  • You are willing to step out of your comfort zone

  • You are used to working hard and ready to put in the effort

  • You are driven and on a journey of self improvement

  • You want meaningful and lasting methods that you can carry with you for the rest of your life

This course is NOT for you if:

  • You don’t think you have the energy and time to put the effort in at the moment (wait until you’re really ready to commit!)

  • You expect me to do the work for you :)

  • You expect trick training with horses

  • You just want to ride
